just finished reading “going bovine.”

it was… a really magnificent, incredible book. the ending, all the little details packed in that you know have significance but haven’t quite figured out all of them or at least all of their depth yet… to me, that’s a sign of a good book: one that still leaves you wondering after it’s over. for some reason it reminds me of the song “last day of magic” by the kills (which i had stuck in my head when i finished it).

i remember when i first bought it; i was standing in barnes & noble deliberating between it and another book, and the last few times i’d gone book shopping i’d come away disappointed with the choices i made, but people had told me this was a good book… and let me tell you, it was not another one of those disappointments.

it was just… wow. it was really good. it made me laugh and catch my breath and think (imagine that). i really, really recommend it, if you’re looking for something to keep you from becoming one of those countless “now what?” gifs i keep seeing popping up on my dashboard, talking about summer vacation, that make me sort of sad for the person when i see them.

end gushing post about beautiful book.

Maybe there’s a heaven, like they say, a place where everything we’ve ever done is noted and recorded, weighed on the big karma scales. Maybe not. Maybe this whole thing is just a giant experiment run by aliens who find our human hijinks amusing. Or maybe we’re an abandoned project stared by a deity who checked out a long time ago, but we’re still hard-wired to believe, to try to make meaning of out of the seemingly random. Maybe we’re all part of the same unconscious stew, dreaming the same dreams, hoping the same hopes, needing the same connection, trying to find it, missing, trying again—each of us playing our parts in the others’ plotlines, just one big ball of human yarn tangled up together. Maybe this is it.
